In the article “Monkey See Monkey Do, Monkey Connect,” author Frans de Waal gives information through personal experiences, describing how a person needs to learn from another person rather than an object.Frans de Waal’s article “Monkey See Monkey Do, Monkey Connect” is a good read because it is informational and interesting. He wrote for an average reader to inform them about human and primate behavior. He made it easy to understand and accessible to all readers. Frans de Waal’s qualifications are a Biology Degree and experienced working as the director of the Living Links center at Yerkes Primate Center.He isalso a published author. De Waal’s purpose for this article was to inform and present facts, but also to be unbiased. His writing style is conversational, engaging, and written for average readers. De Waal had no outside sources; he used personal experiences and observations. Another factor that makes this article interesting is his format. The format De Waal used for this article was effective. By not using section titles,De Waal transitioned well and still made sense. De Waal’s introduction eases into the topic and makes it interesting for readers to hook them in. De Waal organized this article well by moving logically from point to point, transitioning effectively, and using information that was relevant through the entire article. The author’s content was also interesting and logical. De Waal’s content was very good and had an introduction/conclusion and some sources. His introduction is tied together well, his main claim is well introduced, and his conclusion restates and clarifies the main claim. De Waal explains that primates mimic other primates. He utilizes examples of monkey behavior to explain his claims. The author’s research and sources were lacking. There is no bibliography. This article would not work for in-depth learning, but his qualifications do work for informing audiences. The author did well by showing his qualifications, having a purpose, using an interesting writing style, and using personal research as his source. He also did well by making sense without section titles, having an interesting hook, being organized, and moving logically from point to point. De Waal gives a good introduction and conclusion. He summarized it well and his qualifications makes this article work for informing audiences.
